Ten Months and One Day

Daddy found these pretty purple flowers on the ground for her to sit in. These trees are blooming all over LA right now. If I were a botanist I would surely tell you which kind they are, but all I know is they are pretty. I tried to get Avery to look out the car window a few days ago as we drove down a street lined with these purple blooming trees, but she was more interested in a rattle in the car than anything outside. This particular setting is outside a house where a nice older couple lives near us. If I were my sister, I would be able to tell you their names, their children and grandchildren's names, and I would be drinking lemonade on their back porch. But this is LA, not the small town south, so they just say, "sure, you are welcome to come on up onto our steps and let the baby look at our roses". They have the most gorgeous roses, all different colors, there must be 20 huge rosebushes. Avery loves to look at the roses every time we take Quincy for a walk. Anyway, this picture is on their front lawn. They are really nice to let us enter into their space on a regular basis. Happy 10 months! Oh she is babbling up a storm, pulling to stand, bouncing, loving eating and going to the park to crawl around in the grass.

oh, the couple with the roses? yeah, i met them one day when i was visiting you. i went on a walk while you were at work. they do have beautiful roses. their names are howard and ethyl. they fell in love during the war because howard was mesmerized by the size of ethyl's roses. their son is a computer programmer in vancouver, their daughter a journalist in omaha. they are so sweet, aren't they? they love their grandkids parker and piper so much.

we didn't have lemonade though--jack and coke. you gotta watch that ethyl. she's a little heavy-handed with the jack.

tell them i said hello and that the trick she told me to try with my roses totally worked.

oh, yeah. my niece is gorgeous. i love her and am so proud of her.

hi,

they are jacarandas. you may not remember but we had one in our front yard for a few years when we first moved out here.

as i flew into orange county airport earlier this week, i could see some streets that were lined with them. it was very pretty to see all that purple.

love and kisses to all 3 of you, mom/grancy
